UNCHANGING

UNCHANGING: Dependable, persistent, stable, unbroken, unfluctuating.

Song 8:7  Many waters cannot quench the flame of love;  and rivers will never wash it away.

The Greek language lists a number of words for love; the three most important for the Christian are Eros, Philio & Agape. Eros is sexual love from which we derive the word erotic. Phileo is friendship love, it means to have affection for. These loves of Eros & Phileo are human kinds of love and are rooted in the feelings, passions and desires. Whereas Agape is God’s love and is rooted in the will. The difference between them is that Eros and Phileo love being rooted in the feelings are subject to change much like the tide on a beach. Sometimes the tide is in and sometimes the tide is out. This makes for an unstable kind of love. Agape love however being rooted in the will is never subject to change and is constant, sacrificial, unwavering, deliberate, unconditional and is therefore a stable love.

Agape is the word Paul the Apostle chose to use in his famous chapter on love 1 Cor 13:4-8. Agape love is: Patient,  kind, does not envy, does not boast,  is not proud,  is not rude, is not self-seeking,  is not easily angered,  keeps no record of wrongs, does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth,  always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.    (NIV)       This is the kind of love the Father pours out upon us now we are’In Christ’, a love that gives us total assurance and acceptance before Him. Therefore my friends, come just as you are and receive from Him because His love never fails.
